Job Description
The CRNA, as an advanced practice nurse, collaborates with various healthcare professionals to administer anesthesia and pain management interventions based on holistic patient care principles and current evidence-based practices. They work across a spectrum of healthcare settings to cater to patients requiring a wide array of medical procedures, including but not limited to surgeries, obstetric care, diagnostics, therapeutics, and pain relief treatments.
Essential Job Function:
- The responsibilities of the CRNA within a clinical setting depend on the clinical privileges granted to them.
- Supports in the compilation, inspection, and appraisal of all data related to the patient's medical and surgical past with regard to the intended medical intervention.
- Upholds a protected atmosphere and takes suitable action in response to safety threats and urgent situations.
- Prepares and administers medications and fluids in accordance with accepted standards of safe practice.
- Consistently observing and evaluating the airway, depth of sedation, fluid levels, and the body's response to anesthesia is crucial for maintaining patient well-being.
- Aids in the completion of essential paperwork such as the surgical safety checklist, pre-operative assessment, intra-operative anesthesia documentation, and transfer-of-care report.
- Documents reports of incidents within the computer-based Safety Portal.
- Executes tasks as directed by superiors.
Education:
- Required: Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.
Experience:
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: North Carolina Registered Nurse (RN) licensure Recognition as an Advanced Practice RN by the NC Board of Nursing Certification/ Recertification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NCBRNA). BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider ACLS Certification PALs or NPR per campus recommendation.
