Job Description
The Lactation Consultant is a lactation coach, consultant, and teacher who works collaboratively with staff and providers within Women s and Infant s services to develop feeding plans for newborns. Working under close supervision, this role uses current lactation theories and research to develop holistic, evidence-based breast feeding support and feeding plans that address individual feeding issues. This role serves the following patient age categories: newborns, infants, adolescents, and adults.
Essential Job Function:
- Works together with other professionals in Women's and Infant's services and care teams to devise feeding strategies grounded in evidence-based practices, taking into account the infant's nutritional needs and respecting the family's breastfeeding aspirations.
- Carries out evaluations of breastfeeding methods to kickstart the execution of a breastfeeding scheme with the assistance of hospital employees, appraises the efficiency of the scheme, and modifies it accordingly.
- Specializes in providing assistance and counseling on lactation to ensure the well-being of nursing mothers and infants.
- Helps to develop, implement, and assess resources and initiatives targeted at educating patients for better efficacy.
- Provides backing with evidence-based breastfeeding courses and breastfeeding support meet-ups.
- Promotes a protected atmosphere and reacts suitably to crises and safety threats.
- Executes any other responsibilities as delegated.
Education:
- Required: Associate degree
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
- Required: 1 year
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Certification by International Board of Lactation Consultation Examiners (IBLCE)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
