Overview:
In the capacity of a Certified Medical Assistant, one is responsible for delivering coordinated patient care in alignment with the directives of the healthcare provider, utilizing appropriate care plans that meet the patient's condition, needs, and age requirements. Functioning under supervision, this role supports nursing, laboratory, administrative, and Physician staff to promote positive patient results and provide quality care.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates in the collection of patient data, incorporating biological, psychological, social, and cultural considerations.
- Inputs data like vital signs and implements the treatment plan under the provider's supervision.
- Establishes protocols and standing orders specific to the patient's complaint or reason for presenting themselves.
- Undertakes 12-lead EKG procedures, implements select respiratory care measures, and carries out assigned patient care duties within demonstrated competencies and provided training.
- Executes the administration of oral and parenteral medications, which may involve immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin exams, and other treatment modalities, following specified protocols and procedures and the recognized standards for medical assisting, under the guidance of supervising physicians.
- Carries out necessary prior authorizations for medications and relays physician-prescribed medications to pharmacies via phone and fax as needed.
- - Directs the booking of appointments, ensuring emergency cases are prioritized and patient flow remains on track.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation of all procedures performed by the medical assistant in the medical record.
- Acquires the proper prior authorizations or pre-certifications in adherence to safety regulations for patient treatment.
- Conveys patient's status, questions, and worries to nursing team and doctor in order to assist in categorizing and responding to messages.
- Fulfills other roles as designated.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required:
- Successful applicants are required to present a valid certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from an approved certifying body such as the American Allied Health - RMA(AAH) or the National Health Career Association (NHA)
- American Red Cross or American Heart Association offering BLS (CPR) for healthcare professionals.
- Participation in a clinical orientation, meeting competency requirements, and successfully passing a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test are mandatory within 90 days of hire, with a limit of three attempts
