Job Description
The Physician is accountable for taking care of patients and completing all clinical responsibilities. Provides multidisciplinary team coordination services to the assigned areas. Provides medical education to residents, interns and other students. The incumbent participates in or contributes to an environment to advance medical research. The incumbent provides independent judgment in diagnosis and treatment of patients, formulation of treatment plans, and direction of the interdisciplinary team in achieving the goals of the patient care plan.
Essential Job Function
- Remaining professionally competent involves making use of literature and participating in regional and national meetings for education and training.
- Participates in educational programs designed for patients, staff, and professional advancement.
- Actively involved in educational and research activities, which involve didactic material, formal teaching sessions, educational conferences, staff training sessions, and clinical studies.
- Takes part in liaison tasks alongside other staff members and aids in building networks for patient referral sources.
- Ensures referring physicians are kept informed about patient care and treatment outcomes.
- Patient Care: Delivers care to patients in assigned regions, both directly and indirectly.
- Responsible for overseeing the interdisciplinary team's medical activities and providing guidance to residents and medical students.
- Involves themselves in projects related to clinical research.
- Ensures that all care provided is documented and signed off in a timely and precise manner to keep medical records current for billing purposes.
- Follows the established professional standards of Cone Health, which encompass the Medical Staff By-Laws, commitments to Service Excellence, adherence to practice standards, meeting physician requirements, and ensuring a professional image is maintained.
- Works in tandem with Cone Health's Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Exhibits collaborative and considerate associations with colleagues, patients, coworkers, family, and guests.
- Follows the Socratic Oath, ensures patient confidentiality, and behaves with honesty and ethics in every situation.
- Acts in accordance with Cone Health's aims and plays a part in meeting set standards.
- Contributes to medical audits, quality enhancement efforts, investigations, peer assessments, and other relevant inquiries related to maintaining professional care standards.
- Leads the interdisciplinary team in providing medical direction to maximize the well-being of every patient.
- Ensures that safety practices are maintained in accordance with regulations.
- Improving Excellence: Actively participates in continuous enhancements and adoption of evidence-based approaches to advance top-notch healthcare and service provision (with results reaching or exceeding the 90th percentile).
- Ensure that records are maintained in compliance with Cone Health's policies and relevant laws and regulations.
- Engages in the advancement of clinical directives, methodologies, initiatives, and provides insights on enhancing the standard and efficacy of healthcare delivery.
- Shares explicit on-call obligations with colleagues in the assigned specialty fields.
Education:
- Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
- Also, medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
Experience:
- Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges.
- If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).
- Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC. Meets requirements of the Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.
- The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
