Job Description
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a hospital setting assists Registered Nurses and healthcare providers in delivering quality patient care. Under direct supervision, the LPN helps develop and carry out patient care plans while preparing medical equipment and supporting procedures within the hospital system.
Essential Job Function:
- Assists the healthcare team by gathering patient history and medical details to ensure accurate and complete documentation in hospital medical records.
- Assists in developing and implementing care plans as directed by the Registered Nurse or healthcare provider to serve patient needs of those being treated in a hospital.
- Follows proper techniques and safety protocols in compliance with Cone Health policies for maintaining sterile environments.
- Communicates health care instructions to patients and families in order to deliver information in a clear way for the care plan.
- Assists in responding to emergencies and safety risks by using personal protective equipment and following hospital safety procedures to prevent patient harm.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Diploma in Practical Nursing; Completion of Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required within 4 years of hire.
Experience:
- Required: None; New LPN Graduates must be accepted into the Cone Health LPN Academy.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Current LPN license in North Carolina; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
