Job Description
The Nursing Technician assists the Registered Nurse by monitoring and documenting patient conditions. Under close supervision, this role supports patients with daily activities and progressive mobility as needed.
Essential Job Function
- Supports patients with daily living tasks, including meals, personal care, and progressive mobility in order to support the recovery and plan of care.
- Evaluates patients’ quality of life concerning nutrition, hydration, and elimination to allocate resources effectively and anticipate care needs.
- Admits, transfers, and discharges patients in order to move them to the appropriate locations in line with the plan of care.
- Supports clinical procedures by monitoring blood glucose, recording vital signs, performing EKGs, applying restraints, and assisting with elimination needs to ensure patient comfort and care.
- Helps to maintain unit inventories of supplies and medical equipment in order to ensure a clean and safe environment in adherence to the National Patient Safety Goals.
- Checks that fall-risk patients have the appropriate arm bands, socks, and signage to ensure physical safety.
- Assists in documenting clinical procedures, patient interactions, and medication administration to maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records.
- Responds promptly to delegation from registered nurse staff and shares patient observations to ensure efficient collaboration.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
- Required: None
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Certification required by State of North Carolina DHHR. Nurse Aide Certification required. BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
