Job Description
The Nurse Shift Coordinator takes charge of managing operational matters pertaining to patient care, acting as a pivotal link between patients, their families, nursing personnel, physicians, and external entities. Facilitating communication, resolving challenges, and offering guidance are central to the role's responsibilities. The coordinator provides direct assistance on-site and imparts knowledge to junior team members. Moreover, they serve as a representative of nursing and facility administration when needed, ensuring the smooth delivery of care and consistency in service quality.
Essential Job Function:
- Functions as a clinical support aid and notifies the succeeding shift coordinator of any modifications in resident condition.
- Engages with nursing leadership to meet department/program targets.
- Leads and facilitates staff training sessions when necessary.
- Administers direct patient care in particular situations.
- Acts as a role model for Cone Health values, embodying integrity, exceptional service, a culture of innovation, compassion, and financial responsibility.
- Functions as a tool for making decisions regarding patient placement, partnering with departmental nurses and social services to manage admissions and transitions effectively.
- Helps redistribute employees across different sections and maintains a log of their transfers, intervening when corrections are required.
- Acts as a backup for the management in their absence, ensuring that patient needs are met effectively.
- Acts as the proxy for the facility administration in their nonattendance and advises the nursing staff and other employees in the facility.
- Looks into the concerns expressed by patients, their relatives, physicians, and staff members.
- Carries out any other assigned responsibilities.
Education:
- Required: Graduate of RN Education Program; A.D.N., Diploma or Certificate.
Experience:
- Required: 3 years or more RN clinical experience in a hospital or long-term care setting.
- Preferred: Previous leadership experience desired, long term care experience.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider; Current North Carolina Registered Nurse License.
