Overview:

The Athletic Trainer Outreach role collaborates in assessing, healing, and restoring fitness-related injuries under physician guidance and directive. This position performs independently and in partnership with medical practitioners to deliver continuous care, establish injury prevention and management plans for sports professionals. Responsibilities include supervising daily training and event activities, overseeing injury care, coordinating administrative functions, introducing sports performance initiatives, and maintaining precise documentation. The role operates as a crucial intermediary within the Sports Medicine team, acting as a channel of communication between general practitioners, specialists, school systems, athletes, and their families. The job entails non-traditional work hours, necessitating availability during evenings and weekends to support athletic competitions and events.

Responsibilities:

Carries out evaluations for clinical assessments, diagnoses injuries of sportspeople, and decides on their fitness to return to the game or necessity for further medical attention.
Manages the distribution of medications and treatments as prescribed by the team Physician to assist in restoring the patient to peak functionality.
Supports in evaluating and analyzing musculoskeletal injuries and conditions in athletes to recognize their specific needs.
Delivers manual therapy, soft tissue mobilization, electrical interventions, and hydrotherapy if suitable.
Shares information with patients to help them prevent injuries, learn about their body's anatomy, utilize proper body mechanics, and undergo rehabilitation for long-term health benefits.
Generates injury summaries for team healthcare provider and charts patient healing progress to help the physician in refining treatment recommendations.
Utilizes various therapeutic methods such as heat application, ice therapy, electrical stimulation, and physical exercises to assist in the healing and recuperation process.
Advocates for determining if patients are ready to engage in activities they did before they were injured.
Exhibits the precise technique of taping, strapping, bracing, and customizing sports equipment to assist in stabilizing injuries for recuperation.
Carries out assigned tasks beyond regular duties.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training OR Physical Education w/ Athletic Training emphasis Preferred: Master's of Science in Athletic Training

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

NonePreferred: One year of professional experience or internship in sports medicine

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required:

NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification); LAT - Licensed Athletic Trainer by NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
