Job Description
By working closely with the Provider and following standardized care protocols tailored to each patient's age, condition, and requirements, the Medical Assistant Certified supports the healthcare team in providing comprehensive care and assisting nursing, laboratory, administrative, and Physician colleagues to promote favorable patient experiences and health outcomes.
Essential Job Function:
- Supports in the accumulation of patient information across various domains like biology, psychology, social interactions, and cultural influences.
- Enters essential data, such as vital signs, and follows through with the care plan prescribed by the Provider.
- Executes protocols and standing orders depending on patient complaints or the nature of their visit.
- Undertakes 12-lead electrocardiography procedures, implements specific respiratory therapies, and attends to assigned patient care tasks upon showcasing required competencies and training.
- Administers oral and injectable medications, which encompass immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin tests, and various treatment methods, in adherence to prescribed policies and protocols within the realm of medical assisting standards overseen by attending physicians.
- Executes prior authorization procedures for medications as required and communicates medication orders from physicians to pharmacies using phone or fax methods.
- Administers booking of appointments, with a focus on accommodating urgent cases and regulating patient timelines.
- Maintains precise and thorough documentation of all tasks performed by the medical assistant in the patient's medical chart.
- Secures the appropriate prior authorizations or pre-approvals for patients in accordance with safety protocols.
- Communicates patient condition, questions, and concerns to nursing staff and physician in order to triage and respond to messages appropriately.
- Executes supplementary assignments as instructed.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or EquivalentPreferred: Medical Assistant Program
Experience
- Required: NonePreferred: Completion of medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required:Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider. **Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.
