Job Description
The Executive Director of Medical Affairs oversees the coordination of daily operations for the Medical Staff Services and Medical Staff Quality Departments across the organization.
Essential Job Function:
- Coordinates accreditation efforts across the entire system through the comprehensive understanding of federal and state laws as well as regulations related to Medical, Dental, and Advanced Practice Provider (APP) services.
- The system has a large medical staff of more than 2000 providers, necessitating excellent communication and organizational abilities. It oversees the credentialing process for medical, dental, and advanced practice provider staff across the system, following the rules and regulations outlined in the Medical and Dental Staff Bylaws. This task involves working closely with medical staff leaders, hospital administrators, the Board of Trustees, and adhering to federal and state statutes as well as regulatory guidelines.
- Manages and comprehends the regulations governing Medical Staff and coordinates modifications to these regulations as advised by the Medical Staff(s).
- Oversees the performance improvement and peer review processes for the Medical, Dental, and Advanced Practice Provider staff across the entire system, ensuring that results are evaluated, shared, and recorded in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, and in conjunction with Medical and Dental Staff authorities, as well as Federal and State laws and regulatory standards.
- - Responsible for managing the budgets of the Medical Affairs cost center across the entire system, making suggestions for improvements, forecasting future expenses, keeping track of spending, and finding ways to reduce costs.
- Converts strategic plans at the organizational level into department-specific goals and objectives that encompass the entire system.
- Supervises the creation and execution of comprehensive system-wide policies and procedures to direct and facilitate the delivery of Medical, Dental, and APP services.
- Acts as a comprehensive support for the Medical and Dental Staff, hospital personnel, and organizational management on various medical staff issues such as credentialing criteria, peer evaluation, necessary interventions related to counseling and disciplinary actions, and more
Education
- Masters, Required in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or Business
Experience
- Required: Minimum 5 years in Medical Staff Services including expertise in peer review process and familiarity with just culture as it relates to Peer Review and provider behavior.
- Minimum 5 years in management; prior experience with regulatory standards, compliance and audit.
- Preferred: Expertise in physician and ancillary provider privileging and credentialing.
- Expertise and knowledge of CMS standards related to privileging and credentialing of providers
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- REQUIRED Current licensure in Nursing or other clinical license if applicable; CPMSM and CPCS required.
- PREFERRED Drivers License | Valid Drivers License CPHQ preferred.
