Overview:
Faculty Pediatric Hospitalist
An opportunity is available for a pediatric faculty position in North Carolina at Cone Health, a community teaching hospital in Greensboro. The hospital is associated with the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill and is looking to hire a full-time and part-time hospitalist to expand its faculty, which currently consists of 10 physicians.
The position involves serving as a clinician-educator to residents and students across three clinical settings: a nursery for healthy newborns, a pediatric ward catering to term and late preterm babies from a high-volume delivery service, and a resident acute care clinic. The on-call duty occurs approximately once every 7 nights and additional duties entail providing didactic instruction, guidance, and contributing to initiatives for enhancing healthcare standards. The collaboration with the University of North Carolina (UNC) spans many years and encompasses a Primary Care Residency program in Greensboro, UNC Categorical residents, advanced medical students from UNC, and fellows in Hospital Medicine.
The education program is backed by on-site neonatologists who manage a 45-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within a modern Women's and Children's Hospital, critical care doctors overseeing a 4-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, specialized pediatric physicians, and an outpatient facility acting as the base for the UNC Pediatric Primary Care Residency. Nurse practitioners support both the hospital ward and infant care unit.
The perfect applicant should be board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatrics or Med/Peds, demonstrate exceptional clinical abilities and teaching acumen, and hold a minimum of 2 years of experience working as an attending physician. While certification in pediatric hospital medicine is not mandatory, it is advantageous. Successful candidates can receive a faculty position at the UNC School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, with the possibility of being appointed as an assistant or associate professor. Various leadership opportunities in clinical, quality improvement, and administrative aspects are available for interested individuals.
