Overview:
The Retina Ophthalmic Technician, under the guidance of the physician, readies the patient for the physician's examination and therapy. It is their duty to aid the physician both prior to and during the patient's visit to guarantee a productive appointment. They utilize enhanced understanding of optics and refraction to assess vision through sophisticated techniques tailored to suit the patients' capabilities and requirements. Ophthalmic retina imaging is a common task carried out by the Ophthalmic Technician.
Responsibilities:
Accompanies patient to designated room and obtains relevant information about their eye health, such as primary concern, existing symptoms, and medications presently used.
Acquire confrontation visual fields for each of the patient's eyes.
Takes and documents the intraocular pressure readings for both eyes as directed by the physician.
Conducts a check of the pupils and records the information gathered during the patient's visit and examination.
Assists with conducting additional ophthalmic examinations under the supervision of the eye specialist.
Assists the doctor by administering eye dilation medications as prescribed for each eye.
Collaborates with a doctor to confer with an ophthalmic assistant about intricate or challenging patient cases.
Carries out additional responsibilities as necessary or designated.
