Overview

Responsibilities of the Nurse Shift Coordinator involve overseeing operational issues pertaining to patient care. This position serves as a vital link for patients, families, nursing staff, physicians, and external organizations, guaranteeing efficient communication and conflict resolution. The Coordinator provides on-site support, mentors, and educates new members of the nursing team. They step in for the nursing and facility administration in their absence to maintain care consistency and uphold service quality.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a clinical guide and informs the next shift coordinator of any developments in resident well-being.
  • Partners with nursing leadership to meet department/program objectives. Leads training sessions for staff as needed.
  • Offers direct care to patients in designated scenarios.
  • Exemplifies Cone Health's core values, including integrity, exceptional service delivery, fostering innovation, displaying empathy, and ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Assists in determining the most suitable location for patients, working closely with nursing teams and social service providers to arrange admissions and moves.
  • Shifts workforce among units and keeps a record of interventions when necessary.
  • Steps in as a backup for their departments in the event of management's absence to secure patient satisfaction.
  • Fulfills the duties of the facility administration in their absence and functions as a consultant to nursing staff and other employees working in the facility.
  • Probes into the worries and complaints of patients, their families, physicians, and staff.
  • Undertakes supplementary duties as directed.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Required: Graduate of RN Education Program; A.D.N., Diploma or Certificate

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 3 years or more RN clinical experience in a hospital or long term care settingPreferred: Previous leadership experience desired, long term care experience

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:

Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider; Current North Carolina Registered Nurse License
