Job Description
In the Cardiac Catheterization Lab Specialist's role, direct patient care is provided across a range of specialized labs, such as the Cardiac Cath lab, Peripheral Vascular Lab, Cath Lab Holding Room, and the Electrophysiology Lab. They function as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team and are tasked with delivering high-quality, culturally sensitive, and cost-efficient patient care through assessment, planning, evaluation, and intervention procedures. This role encompasses diverse operational areas and emphasizes the importance of providing safe and effective care to patients.
Essential Job Function:
- Reviews patients' medical backgrounds and present health conditions in anticipation of cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Gathers specific tools and oversees patients while carrying out procedures to ensure their safety and successful results.
- Creates a protective environment, complies with general safety protocols, and employs personal protective gear to decrease dangers and protect the health of both patients and staff members.
- Assists healthcare professionals, like physicians and technicians, in facilitating seamless and prosperous medical processes.
- Delivers patient education and guidance pre-, intra-, and post-cardiac cath lab interventions.
- Abides by the prerequisites of professional growth schemes, actively pursues further education, and supports colleagues in their professional journey to facilitate ongoing learning and expertise expansion, resulting in elevated standards of patient care and clinical proficiency.
- Carries out tasks as designated.
Education
- Required: Graduate from one or more of the following programs required: Radiology Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Cardiovascular Technology Program, or appropriately recognized Paramedic program.
Experience
- Required: 1 - 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience, or 1 - 2 years of Radiology Technical experience, 2 years Paramedic experience, or >2 years of Critical Care or Emergency Department nursing experience.Preferred: Cardiac specialty experience.
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- REQUIRED BLS/ACLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider Radiology Technologist - ARRT Radiology Technologist registry,ORRespiratory Therapist - licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB) as an RRT,ANDcredentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as an RRT. Cardiovascular Technology Program - Graduate from an accredited Cardiovascular Program,ORParamedic - North Carolina EMT-P credentialing/accreditation and/or Paramedic Associate Degree from a appropriately recognized Paramedic program.Graduates from a Cardiovascular Program are required to complete RCIS certification within 3 months of employment.
