Job Description
The duties of the Orthopedic Technician involve helping in the development of splints and casts to treat various orthopedic conditions, along with fitting prefabricated braces for the back, upper body, and lower body. Responsibilities also include setting up, modifying, and providing guidance on tools like crutches and applying traction devices, CPM machines, and overhead frames. Working closely with physicians, this role contributes to the recovery and management of orthopedic injuries.
Essential Job Function:
- Aids in the implementation and removal of casts, splints, and related orthopedic equipment as per the physician's directions.
- Aids in customizing pre-made supports for the back, arms, and legs, alongside educating individuals and team members on the correct method of wearing and adjusting them.
- Provides guidance and education to patients and their families regarding the appropriate way to use crutches.
- Aids orthopedic and emergency physicians in performing reductions by supporting the patient during the procedure while the doctor completes the reduction, and afterward by administering splints or slings where necessary.
- Ensures that all services rendered are documented thoroughly and correctly in the patient's medical file.
- Executes any other responsibilities as designated.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
