Overview:

The CMO role at Alamance Regional Medical Center (ARMC) entails offering guidance, oversight, and strategic direction for the medical staff based at the facility and the delivery of healthcare services in the Alamance area. This position is vital within the executive team at ARMC. While the primary focus is a full-time commitment, there may be options to fulfill a fractional clinical role amounting to 0.2 while fulfilling the responsibilities of CMO at ARMC.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at ARMC will have a reporting relationship to the hospital President while also having a professional connection with the Cone Health CMO to ensure clinical coordination. In this capacity, the CMO will engage with various key figures such as the Cone Health Chief Physician Executive, CMO, ARMC President, and Cone Health Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to offer advice on clinical and operational matters within the facility, region, or market. Furthermore, this clinical leader will collaborate with the ARMC President and CNO to enhance physician and staff involvement, elevate the quality of patient care, and oversee compliance, safety, and quality control initiatives.

This role entails actively leading efforts to improve ARMC throughput and implementing prompt care protocols throughout the facility. The Chief Medical Officer will play a crucial role in furthering Cone Health's commitment to enhancing value for patients, healthcare providers, staff, and the broader community.

As the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at ARMC, the position entails serving as the primary point of contact for all community-based physicians collaborating with ARMC. The CMO will establish fresh connections with significant physician partners to foster the expansion and enhancement of ARMC's clinical programs. Working alongside other medical staff leaders within the organization, this role will assess and facilitate the introduction of new clinical programs at ARMC. Engaging in strategic, operational, and clinical endeavors is essential to guarantee the continuous expansion and fulfillment of the Alamance region's requirements by ARMC.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will offer direction on conventional healthcare personnel matters like peer evaluation, granting privileges, and verifying qualifications. Additionally, the CMO will be on hand as needed for conducting interviews with potential new additions to the medical and dental staff. The CMO will play an active role in all meetings involving the medical staff, acting as a collaborator and support system for members of the medical staff, clinical personnel, and all clinical leaders.

Focusing on geographical service performance and industry trends, the CMO will establish connections with medical and clinical personnel to grasp and tackle their worries and identify prospects for enhancement. Understanding essential performance indicators and spearheading initiatives to enhance them within their specific division will be a key task for the CMO. This includes initiatives related to healthcare-associated infections, patient falls, duration of hospital stays, readmission rates, and more

The role will be a resource and key stakeholder supporting and aligning with other key executive roles across Cone Health to include:

• Systemwide Leadership and other Chief Medical Officers

• Hospital Presidents

• Hospital Chief Nursing Officers

• System Chief Quality Officer

• VP Physician Engagement,

• VP Acute Clinical Hospital Services,

• President of the Medical Group and other physician executives of Cone Health system

• Medical directors of clinical service lines and facility units/programs

Responsibilities:

Acting as a bridge between high-level administrators across the healthcare system and on-the-ground medical practitioners and physician groups. Advocating for the interests and issues brought forth by doctors and advanced practice providers to the top management within the healthcare system. Additionally, conveying organizational and business matters from the leadership to the medical staff.

Create and uphold care transition frameworks that aid doctors and individuals in moving between hospital settings and emergency departments. Recognize the progression of care with an emphasis on ensuring patients remain secure in their residences, making efficient use of ambulatory services, and turning to acute and emergency resources as a last resort when needed.

Enhancing engagement among physicians and advanced practice providers is crucial for enhancing patient results.

Be familiar with and endorse the enhancement of procedures related to medical staff privileging and credentialing. Contribute on an as-needed basis to the Peer Review process within the facility and the committee focused on professionalism.

Establish specialized teams organized by functional units, overseen by medical and nursing leaders, dedicated to enhancing quality, safety, patient satisfaction, and staff/physician involvement objectives

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

REQUIRED:

  • MD or DO degree

PREFERRED:

  • Formal advanced degree training/credentialing such as a MBA, MHA, MMM or educational program Recent clinical practice is strongly preferred.
  • Board certification in area of clinical practice is strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • Five years of progressive clinical and administrative leadership demonstrating clinical skills, process improvement and multi-disciplinary team development
  • Knowledge of medico-legal issues, laws, and CMS/Joint Commission regulatory issues

PREFERRED:

  • 1-3 years Quality Improvement leadership
  • 1-3 years Regulatory/Accreditation leadership

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED

Licensed (or license eligible) to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina Valid Driver's License

PREFERRED:

Graduate of Physician Leadership Academy (Cone Health) or equivalent Board Certification in area of clinical practice
