Job Description
The Clinic Physician's primary role is ensuring patient care and fulfilling clinical obligations while coordinating with a diverse team in specific areas. They also play a key role in educating medical learners like residents and interns. Additionally, they contribute to fostering an environment conducive to medical research. This position involves utilizing independent judgment in diagnosing and treating patients, devising treatment plans, and leading the interdisciplinary team to meet patient care objectives.
Essential Job Function:
- Keeping abreast of current trends and maintaining professional competency by referencing literature and engaging in regional and national conferences is crucial for education and training.
- Takes part in educational initiatives tailored for inpatient settings, staff members, and professional development.
- Participates in educational and research programs including didactic material. formal teaching conferences, clinical teaching, staff education conferences, and clinical research.
- Liaison: Involves collaborating with other members of the professional team and cultivating sources for patient referrals.
- Ensures referring physicians are kept updated on treatment and results.
- Responsible for delivering patient care, both directly and indirectly, in specified locations.
- Offers medical guidance to the interdisciplinary group and directs the supervision of residents and medical students throughout their assigned tasks.
- Takes part in research projects in the medical field that intrigue them.
- Provides accurate and timely documentation and sign off of care to establish up-to-date medical records for billing purposes.
- Maintains the professional criteria set forth by Cone Health, which includes complying with the Medical Staff By-Laws, committing to the principles of Service Excellence, following practice standards, meeting physician expectations, and upholding standards for professional demeanor.

- Supervises and leads the healthcare team to maximize the effectiveness of patient care.
- Upholds standards for safety and compliance with regulations.
- Continuous Progression: Strives for perpetual advancements by incorporating evidence-based approaches, aiming for top-tier healthcare and service outcomes surpassing the 90th percentile.
- Ensure that record-keeping practices at Cone Health align with established policies and legal requirements.
- Takes part in the formulation of clinical directives, practices, initiatives, and provides suggestions for enhancing the overall quality and productivity of healthcare services.
- Splits the specific on-call responsibilities with fellow physicians in the assigned sections.
Education
- Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
- Also, medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
Experience
- Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges.
- If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).
- Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC.
- Meets requirements of the Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges. The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
