Job Description
The Pharmacy Director plays a key role in driving organizational performance by concentrating on strategic, operational, financial, and clinical leadership aspects. Tasks include strategic planning and evaluation of resources such as personnel, inventory, and finances essential for the provision of pharmacy services. The primary objective of this position is to set guidelines, targets, and strategies for pharmacy services and initiatives. It also involves overseeing staffing and financial resources to deliver pharmaceutical, distribution, and advisory services that aid medical and nursing staff in patient care management. The Director ensures adherence to hospital and pharmacy guidelines as well as staff competency. Furthermore, the role is instrumental in promoting staff growth, fostering collaboration across disciplines, and implementing technological advancements to enhance care quality, operational efficiency, and organizational resilience. The primary responsibility is to lead and support the pharmacy team at the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Essential Job Function:
- Utilizes trend analysis and input from staff and customers to define and enhance departmental goals and targets. Constructs and upholds a consistent organizational setup within the department to align with program objectives. Upholds compliance with departmental protocols, The Joint Commission criteria, state/federal mandates, and societal/national benchmarks.
- Reviewing and ensuring the safety and efficiency of medication usage protocols and acquisition policies. Being proactive in managing medication scarcities and devising, evaluating, and conveying the department's plan for enhancing performance. Formulating, executing, and evaluating strategies to boost customer gratification.
- Assesses and proposes cost-saving measures for departmental expenses aligned with organizational goals.
- Champions Cone Health values by exemplifying care for patients, coworkers, and the community while upholding patient-centric decision-making as a core principle. Advocates for collaboration among staff, peers, doctors, and other individuals involved. Works towards establishing a consistent approach to patient care in various acute care facilities through fostering teamwork and cooperation
- Regularly attends and takes charge of meetings, task forces, and committees; finishes tasks on or before the set timeline. Supervises and motivates staff to concentrate on and reach desired levels of patient approval.
- Predicts, assesses, and establishes the human capital requirements for departmental functions, guaranteeing that HR operations conform to organizational protocols covering recruitment, employment, timetabling, and disciplinary measures. Assesses employee performance in line with organizational and industry standards. Supports the formation and enhancement of productive work groups. Controls employee retention and turnover rates to realize organizational targets. Creates and sustains an atmosphere that fosters education and professional growth.
- Ensures pharmacy department complies with regulations from JCAHO, DEA, NCBOP, DHHS, and other relevant authorities as the holder of the pharmacy license.
Education:
- Required: BS Pharmacy or PharmD
- Preferred: Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Pharmacy or Pharmacy Administration, Master of Business Administration, or other advanced degree in pharmacy or healthcare leadership.
Experience:
- Required: 5 years in a hospital Pharmacy with 3 years supervisory experience
- Preferred: PGY1 and PGY2 ASHP Accredited Pharmacy Residencies or equivalent work experience. Experience with budget, financial management, and staffing methodologies. Experience with implementing improvement processes, preferred lean methodologies.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Current active license to practice pharmacy in North Carolina, or eligible to obtain North Carolina pharmacy license within two months of hire.
