Overview:
High-quality care is provided to patients by medical assistants following the nursing process standards and hospital guidelines established in compliance with the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act and under the supervision of RNs and MDs.

Responsibilities:
Performs general patient care under the direction of the RN, MD or Provider. Collects patient history and medical information and any additional information such as biological, psychological, social and cultural factors needed to provide complete treatment of the patient and documents in medical record. Performs clinical and technical aspects of nursing care in accordance with prescribed procedure and technique and according to unit standards and competencies. Assists in identifying patient problems, patient and family goals and developing plan of care. Implements plan of care as directed by RN or MD and documents nursing interventions performed according to policy and procedure. Documents patient response to interventions and communicates effectiveness to RN or MD or provider. Prepares equipment and exam rooms as necessary to assist physician or provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients. Implements proper procedure, technique and safety precautions as warranted by condition of patient, and monitors such practices by nursing assistants.
Establishes a therapeutic and caring relationship between the nursing/healthcare team, patients, and loved ones. Pinpointing communication barriers, sifting through available resources, and creating actionable communication plans are all part of the process. Demonstrates a proper understanding and appreciation of diversity and cultural differences of patients and significant others based on age, ethnicity, gender, religion, socio-economics, education, personality traits, and unique characteristics. Upholds the rights of patients by acting as an advocate. Responds competently to customers' needs based on specific and unique circumstances. Facilitates the education of staff concerning nurse-patient relationships. Provides patients with proper health care instruction and information tailored to their requirements as set out by the care plan and documents feedback from patients.
Adapts to changing situations and remains flexible in the face of challenges. Uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex situations and find suitable resolutions.
Qualifications:
Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nursing program required.
Completion of Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) required within 4 years of hire.
EXPERIENCE:
1 year, Healthcare - Nurse: LPN, LVN, Preferred
One year professional experience in a clinical setting preferred.

LPN | Licensed Practical Nurse
BLS (CPR) | American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
