Job Description
Executing, interpreting, and validating laboratory tests on specimens to ascertain precise and consistent conclusions while complying with established protocols constitutes the primary responsibility of the Medical Laboratory Scientist II. With supervision, this position encompasses resolving issues with and upholding sophisticated instrumentation, organizing tasks according to deadlines, and remaining abreast of requirements and standards. The essence of the Medical Laboratory Scientist II's role lies in furnishing accurate and punctual diagnostic details pivotal to aiding patient welfare and treatment choices.
Essential Job Function:
- Executes the various steps involved in testing laboratory specimens, maintaining adherence to established policies and protocols for the purpose of achieving accurate and trustworthy test results.
- Ensures the accuracy of specimen testing and reporting through quality control and assurance procedures to facilitate effective diagnosis and treatment processes.
- Manages and addresses issues with sophisticated instruments and test setups, documenting necessary adjustments before finalizing test data to enhance the reliability of results.
- Demonstrates a focus on task prioritization and workload management to ensure timely laboratory results for effective patient care and treatment determinations.
- Maintains compliance with safety and regulatory standards through the monitoring of annual competencies, continuing education requirements, and regulatory protocols.
- Implements strategies for optimal supply utilization and plays an active role in overseeing inventory levels to ensure a financially savvy and adequately equipped laboratory.
- Carries out tasks beyond the specified ones.
Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science.
Experience
- Preferred: Six months experience as a technical generalist
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Must have Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) pr Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) or Technologist in Blood Banking (BB) or Technologist in Chemistry (C) or Technologist in Hematology (H) or Technologist in Microbiology (M) or Specialist in Microbiology (SM) by ASCP or AMT certification.
