Job Description

Responsibilities of the Patient Access Lead include organizing and directing the daily tasks and timetables for all patient access personnel, while also offering input on operational processes and staffing challenges to the Patient Access Supervisor. This role operates with a level of oversight, handling staffing supervision, analyzing performance metrics, monitoring quality assurance protocols, and fulfilling other assigned tasks.

Essential Job Function:

  • Manages the day-to-day functions of the patient access sector (Admission or ED) to ensure compliance with departmental guidelines, which encompasses overseeing staffing levels for daily duties and being answerable for and actively involved in the registration process.
  • Helps the Supervisor with the process of integrating new hires and informing employees about any role-related updates.
  • Gathers payments and copayments while monitoring key performance metrics according to established goals; meets daily reporting obligations.
  • Aids in handling patient complaints and displays familiarity with the occurrence reporting system, using it to report any potential safety risks.
  • Aids the Supervisor in maintaining compliance with personnel department policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a stand-in supervisor and updates the supervisor on any relevant concerns upon their comeback.
  • Offers exceptional customer support through the implementation of Relationship Based Care principles to promote safety, patient preferences, and efficient communication by working closely with patients, their families, team members, and other relevant parties.
  • Carries out supplementary responsibilities as designated.

Education

  • Required: Associate s degree in healthcare administration, medical office administration, or related field required. 4 years of related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Experience

  • Required: 3 years patient access, registration, or a similar healthcare administrative role.

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Preferred: Certification in healthcare administration or medical office management (e.g., Certified Healthcare Access Associate CHAA)
