Job Description
The main duty of the Patient Financial Counselor is to establish appropriate financial plans for specified patient accounts by securing backing from a variety of federal, state, and county bodies. This is essential in meeting the patient's financial commitments to the health system and ensuring recompense. Working under general guidance, this role also assesses patients eligible for potential financial aid to assist with their financial responsibilities.
Essential Job Function:
- Manages initial and subsequent outreach for patients lacking insurance.
- Provides information and advice to patients and their families on determining their financial eligibility for assistance from different government-sponsored programs designed to reimburse medical expenditures.
- Reviewing a patient's health records from diverse outlets, ascertaining their suitability for program inclusion and financial backing.
- Connects eligible clients with relevant financial support and insurance schemes, assists in navigating the application protocols, and coordinates with different departments to enhance the effectiveness of financial guidance and facilitate optimal reimbursement procedures.
- Oversees the processing and approval practices of funding agencies to ensure timely and accurate assessment of eligibility for applicants.
- Carries out any other assigned responsibilities.
Education:
- Required: Associate's Degree
Experience:
- Required: 1 year customer service experience in healthcare or related setting.
- Preferred: 1 year financial assistance experience in a healthcare setting
