Job Description
Overview:
The NC Nurse Practice Act dictates that the care of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients encompasses a range of tasks, including assessment, planning, implementation, documentation, organization, prioritization, delegation, supervision, and coordination of care.
Responsibilities:
Provides nursing care via the nursing process for the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. Collects and analyzes patient/significant other data. Completes an admission database and ongoing assessment to include collaboration with patients, significant others and other health care providers. Implements a plan of care for each patient (utilizing clinical pathways where applicable) and individualizes to meet the age specific needs of patients/significant others. Identifies variances and makes adjustments in the plan of care based on evaluation of the plan and effectiveness of nursing interventions. Documents and updates the plan of care, nursing care, nursing interventions and patient response to care, and keeps healthcare team, patients and significant other informed. Contributes to the discharge plan by identifying homecare needs. Recognizes changes in patients' conditions and revises the plan of care appropriately. Demonstrates advanced competencies and critical thinking skills in day to day practice. Identifies and implements educational needs for patients/significant others.

Prioritizes an environment emphasizing evidence-based practices, research, and quality improvement efforts. Possesses thorough knowledge of shared leadership responsibilities and standards, supports the division's shared governance structure by participating in committees or keeping informed of their activities and advocating for their decisions. Knows how to access electronic systems containing policies, procedures, standards, and other relevant information. Participates in activities that promote quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research to advance departmental goals and objectives. Demonstrates proficiency in resource management principles, identifies opportunities for improvement, and implements changes. Contributes to the development of action plans, analyzes QI/EBP/research data, and incorporates changes into clinical practice. Adheres to ongoing activities to meet or exceed regulatory standards set by TJC, DFS, and OSHA. Provides guidance and leadership to colleagues and fosters a positive and supportive work environment. Maintains accountability for observing policies, procedures, and standards. Provides feedback in precepting and coaching processes and supports needs assessments. Delegates appropriate tasks to support staff, ensures their completion, and provides feedback as necessary. Demonstrates a collaborative and teamwork-oriented approach to work. Supervises clinical performance and patient care of select staff members.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- New RN Graduates: Acceptance into Cone Health New Graduate program or completion of an acute care new graduate program.
Preferred:
- Experienced RN : One year of Acute Care RN experience is preferred. Hiring leader may consider other RN experience at their discretion.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED
RN | Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact state.
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
PREFERRED
The following certifications are preferred and may be required within a certain timeframe of hire as defined by the specific nursing unit.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
- Safe Training and Responsible Restraints (STARR)
