Overview:
This position is accountable for taking care of patients and completing all clinical responsibilities. Provides multidisciplinary team coordination services to the assigned areas. Provides medical education to residents, interns and other students. The incumbent participates in or contributes to an environment to advance medical research. The incumbent provides independent judgment in diagnosis and treatment of patients, formulation of treatment plans, and direction of the interdisciplinary team in achieving the goals of the patient care plan.
Responsibilities:
Educational Engagement: Demonstrates commitment to ongoing education and training by reviewing literature and attending local and national conferences. Contributes to patient, staff, and professional education programs. Engages in educational and research initiatives, including clinical research, formal teaching conferences, clinical teaching, staff education conferences, and didactic material presentations.
Interprofessional communication: Participates in interprofessional communication to enhance liaison strategies and create better patient referral opportunities. Ensures that referring physicians are informed about their patients' ongoing treatments.
Delivery of patient care in assigned areas through direct and indirect means is supervised by the healthcare provider. The interdisciplinary team receives guidance, while residents and medical students are supervised in their tasks. Participation in clinical research and up-to-date management of patient care documentation is part of the healthcare provider's responsibilities.
Maintains a professional image that is in keeping with MCHS's standards and expectations. Demonstrates a commitment to personal and professional growth, continuously improving their skills and knowledge.
Healthcare Standards: Collaborates in medical audits, quality improvement programs, and peer reviews, ensuring the highest professional care standards are met. Provides medical supervision and leadership to the interdisciplinary team, ensuring optimal patient outcomes that adhere to regulatory compliance and safe practice standards.
Continuous Quality Improvement: Shows unwavering commitment to continuously improving quality and utilizing evidence-based methods to achieve outstanding healthcare and services outcomes (with results surpassing or matching the 90th percentile). Observes MCHS policies and applicable legal and regulatory requirements to uphold accurate records. Plays a part in the development of clinical procedures, guidelines, programs, and recommends improvements to optimize the quality and effectiveness of care. Collaborates with fellow physicians to fulfill designated on-call obligations in particular areas.

Required:
Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board. Also medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.

Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).

Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges. If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).
Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC.
Meets requirements of the Moses Cone Health System Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.
The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
Each Practitioner shall maintain in force professional liability insurance as determined by the Moses Cone Health System Medical Executive Committee and Board of Trustees; currently $1 million each incident and each occurrence, and $3 million aggregate. The Practitioner must provide proof of professional liability insurance coverage, with a current certificate of insurance or a current copy of the policy. The professional liability insurance coverage shall be with a company approved by the North Carolina Insurance Commission and otherwise satisfactory to the Board of Trustees.
