Overview:
The Certified Clinic Phlebotomist is responsible for gathering and managing laboratory samples with precision in order to aid in the healthcare of patients, ensuring accurate patient identification. Responsibilities include executing physician requests for lab tests within specified time frames using both practice and lab software. Under supervision, the position involves aiding in specimen collection and processing, as well as assisting the Laboratory Manager in tasks such as data organization, report maintenance, analysis support, and other administrative duties necessary for the smooth functioning of the lab.
Responsibilities:
Prepares and executes the gathering of samples with correct patient identification, employing appropriate methods for blood samples, throat cultures, and therapeutic phlebotomies.
Conducting point of care testing permitted under CLIA involves carrying out testing processes, assessing, and conveying results with precision and promptness as needed.
Interacts with patients and colleagues in a polite and professional manner, upholding confidentiality in all forms of communication to promote a smooth flow of care and minimize the likelihood of mistakes or privacy violations.
Offers both spoken and written guidance to patients on how to collect specimens, customizing communication based on age and listening skills to encourage proper specimen collection and minimize mistakes in order to obtain precise test outcomes.
Aids in accurately and efficiently processing laboratory orders by utilizing suitable computer systems and promptly addressing urgent STAT requests to improve order processing and enhance patient care quality.
Assists in verifying specimen requirements to make sure they are suitable and helps resolve billing problems for accurate coordination with external labs and billing correctness.
Keeps workspaces clean and restocks materials to establish a secure and clean setting and promote efficient operations.
Keeps a record of incidents and safety problems to uphold a secure work environment and enhance patient care and lab efficiency through ongoing enhancements.
Carries out additional tasks as required.
