Job Description

The Clinic Physician is responsible for attending to patients and fulfilling all clinical duties. They offer coordination services for multidisciplinary teams in designated areas. Moreover, they deliver medical education to residents, interns, and other learners. Additionally, they are involved in fostering an atmosphere that promotes medical research advancement. The Clinic Physician exercises autonomy in diagnosing and treating patients, developing treatment strategies, and guiding the interdisciplinary team towards achieving patient care plan objectives.

Essential Job Function:

  • Continuing education is pursued by engaging with literary resources and participating in both local and nationwide conferences to stay updated and proficient in the field.
  • Engages in educational initiatives for inpatients, personnel, and healthcare professionals.
  • Engages in educational and research initiatives such as didactic content, formal teaching sessions, clinical instruction, staff education meetings, and research activities.
  • Liaison: Engages in liaison responsibilities with fellow professional colleagues and contributes to building relationships with sources for patient referrals.
  • Continuously updates referring doctors on the patient's treatment progress and results.
  • Gives hands-on and behind-the-scenes care to patients in designated areas.
  • Oversees the interdisciplinary team and guides residents and medical students in fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Engages in clinical trials that capture their attention.
  • Ensuring precise and prompt documentation and approval of treatment for the purpose of creating current medical records for billing needs.
  • Maintains the professional standards of Cone Health by adhering to guidelines outlined in the Medical Staff By-Laws, Service Excellence pledges, practice protocols, physician responsibilities, and standards for professional appearance.

  • Participating in medical audits, quality enhancement initiatives, investigations, peer evaluations, and other assessments regarding professional care standards as required for quality and safety maintenance is essential.
  • Offers medical guidance and direction to the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes for every patient.
  • Upholds safe operational protocols and adheres to regulatory requirements.
  • Quality Enhancement: Commits to ongoing enhancements and application of proven methodologies to advance healthcare and service excellence, aiming for outcomes in the top decile.
  • Adhere to the guidelines set by MCHS, as well as relevant legislation, when managing documentation.
  • Plays a role in shaping clinical guidelines, protocols, initiatives, and offers suggestions to enhance the standard and effectiveness of healthcare.
  • Distributes particular on-call duties among fellow physicians in the designated departments.

Education

  • Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
  • Also medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.

Experience

  • Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges.
  • If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty). Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC. Meets requirements of the Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.
  • The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
  • Cone Health shall obtain and maintain in force professional liability insurance through commercial coverage or a program of self-insurance insuring MCAP and Physician for professional errors, omissions, negligence, incompetence, and malfeasance.
