Job Description

Under supervision, the Scheduler Cancer Center organizes and manages all medical oncology appointments for new and current patients. These appointments include laboratory tests, chemotherapy or infusion treatments, new patient consultations, follow-ups with healthcare providers, injections, nutrition sessions, genetics counseling, and educational programs. Additionally, they may assist in arranging internal and external referrals as needed by the medical team to guarantee that patients receive appropriate care.

Essential Job Function:

  • Exhibits critical thought and analytical abilities through the examination of provider schedules, appointment time sensitivity, and patient demands to precisely book and organize oncology consultations.
  • Assesses clinical records and facilitates communication among different units to optimize the efficiency of care provision.
  • Takes part in endeavors focused on optimizing patient access and streamlining operational processes in an effort to boost efficiency.
  • Supports in scheduling requested medical oncology appointments as directed by the provider or their team, in adherence to campus guidelines.
  • Addresses patient phone calls and voicemails promptly concerning scheduling to manage requests, inquiries, and concerns efficiently.
  • Helps other schedulers at the cancer center to meet urgent scheduling demands and lends a hand to those facing high volumes of work.
  • Exhibits politeness, grace, professionalism, and genuineness while communicating with patients and double-checking appointment details for clarity.
  • Providing answers to patient queries regarding scheduling and working together with individuals to find resolutions to any arising challenges, worries, or disagreements.
  • Rearranges patient appointments as necessary and alerts healthcare professionals about any changes in chemotherapy scheduling for patients.
  • Arranges appointments that necessitate pre-authorization following specific criteria to ensure approval precedes the service delivery.
  • Executes any other responsibilities as directed.

Education

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Required: 6 months of appointment scheduling, medical office front desk, or patient care experience.
