Overview:
The supervision under normal circumstances, the Mental Health Technician Nurse Secretary aids in delivering therapeutic care to mental health patients in line with Trauma-Informed Care principles as directed by a Registered Nurse and the agreed-upon treatment strategy. Engaging with individuals undergoing psychiatric treatment across various age groups, this position conducts activities like group educational sessions and personalized interactions to support their therapeutic journey.
Responsibilities:
Uses observational skills to identify shifts in patient signs and actions and relays this information to the Registered Nurse for potential modifications to the treatment regimen.
Supporting in establishing clear and compassionate communication with patients and their families to maintain their participation in the treatment journey, such as managing patient education gatherings.
Completes safety assessments and environmental checks, documenting processes and keeping the Registered Nurse informed about advancements.
Tracks supply inventories to fulfill patient and nursing requirements while adhering to financial restrictions and departmental targets.
Aids in delivering patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse by conducting tasks like monitoring vital signs and blood glucose levels, arranging electrocardiograms, moving patients, and helping with mobility and bathroom visits.
Engages with psychiatric patients by acknowledging and responding to their verbal and nonverbal expressions with empathy, facilitating meaningful communication and addressing their needs compassionately.
Undertakes extra responsibilities as directed.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
Successful completion of Nursing Assistant Certificate and/or Associate?s Degree in human service field preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Preferred:
A minimum of one year of experience in behavioral health field or health care field
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED
Required:
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider; STARR (verbal and physical de-escalation) to be successfully completed within the first 30 days of hire date
Preferred:
Listed as a Nursing Aide I with the North Carolina Division of Facilities Services; Certification through American Association of Psychiatric Technician NCPT Certification Level I-II
