Overview:
The Mental Health Technician Nurse Secretary supports psychiatric patients by offering therapeutic interventions within the framework of Trauma-Informed Care guidelines, following the guidance of a Registered Nurse and adhering to the treatment plan in place. This position operates under standard oversight in typical scenarios and works with individuals of all ages in psychiatric care, engaging in activities like educational sessions and one-on-one support as part of treatment programs.
Responsibilities:
Monitors and communicates alterations in patient conditions and responses to the RN to facilitate appropriate adjustments in treatment strategies.
Assisting in effectively and politely interacting with patients and families to actively engage them in the caregiving procedure, which may involve organizing educational sessions for patients.
Conducts safety inspections and environmental monitoring, recording actions taken and informing the Registered Nurse of developments.
Monitors inventory levels to ensure they align with the demands of patients and nursing staff while also staying within budgetary limitations as outlined by department objectives.
Assists with patient care tasks as directed by the Registered Nurse, such as taking vital signs and capillary blood glucose measurements, setting up EKGs, transferring patients, and aiding with toileting and walking requirements.
Demonstrates sensitivity to both spoken and unspoken cues when interacting with individuals in psychiatric care to convey understanding and fulfill their requirements effectively.
Carries out additional tasks as required.

BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider; STARR (verbal and physical de-escalation) to be successfully completed within the first 30 days of hire date

Listed as a Nursing Aide I with the North Carolina Division of Facilities Services; Certification through American Association of Psychiatric Technician NCPT Certification Level I-II
