Job Description
Overview:
The Respiratory Care Practitioner (Weekend Option) is responsible for administering targeted doses of ionizing radiation to particular areas of a patient's body to combat various illnesses, particularly cancer. This position adheres to established treatment protocols determined by radiation oncologists, which specify the kind, dosage, and duration of radiation treatment needed for each patient. Utilizing cutting-edge technology like linear accelerators and other sophisticated radiation delivery mechanisms, this job is responsible for precisely aiming radiation beams at the specified area.
Responsibilities:
The adherence to treatment plans and parameters ensures the delivery of accurate levels of radiation to specific areas, thus limiting harm to the nearby normal tissues.
Arranges patients on treatment tables, ensuring they are positioned correctly to receive effective radiation targeting.
Verifies treatment plans prior to implementation by cross-checking equipment settings to ensure compliance.
Offers patients detailed information about the procedures they will undergo for treatment, as well as what they can anticipate during their therapy sessions.
Provides emotional backup, catering to patient's worries and ensuring a comfortable journey towards wellness.
Implementing radiation safety protocols is crucial to minimize exposure to patients, personnel, and oneself during treatment sessions.
Recording the treatment specifics, device configurations, patient responses, and other observations is critical to providing comprehensive medical documentation.
Observes patients' conditions regularly and reports any negative reactions promptly to the medical staff.
Undertakes additional responsibilities as deemed necessary or allotted.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Required:
- HS Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of accredited RT program
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- 3 years of experience working in acute clinical care, or completion of equivalent acute care clinical rotations
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED
Required:
Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a RRT. Must be licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board as a CRT or RRT; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider; ACLS-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
