Job Description

The Clinic Physician is in charge of patient care and clinical obligations within their remit. They facilitate team collaboration among different disciplines in the assigned areas. Additionally, the Physician delivers medical training to residents, interns, and various students. The individual is involved in fostering a conducive environment for medical research. Moreover, the Physician demonstrates independent judgment when diagnosing and treating patients, formulating treatment plans, and overseeing the interdisciplinary team to meet the patient care plan's objectives.

Essential Job Function:

  • Utilizes literature and takes part in regional and national gatherings to stay current and competent in the field of education and training.
  • Takes part in educational initiatives for inpatient care, staff development, and professional training.
  • Takes part in educational and research activities that involve didactic material, formal teaching sessions, clinical instruction, staff education meetings, and research endeavors.
  • Collaborates in liaison tasks with other staff members and assists in fostering patient referral networks.
  • Ensures that referring physicians are kept in the loop regarding patient care and progress.
  • Administers patient care, both directly and indirectly, in specified regions.
  • Supplies medical supervision to the interdisciplinary team while overseeing residents and medical students in their assigned tasks.
  • Takes part in research initiatives within the clinical domain.
  • Supplies precise and punctual documentation and endorsement of healthcare to create updated medical records for billing reasons.
  • Adheres to the professional expectations established by Cone Health, which encompass the Medical Staff By-Laws, commitments to Service Excellence, practice norms, physician obligations, and guidelines for maintaining a professional image.

  • Providing leadership in healthcare settings to ensure coordinated efforts among various professionals for the best patient results.
  • Maintains a commitment to upholding safety practices and meeting legal standards.
  • Quality Improvement practices focus on ongoing enhancements and the utilization of evidence-based approaches to advance healthcare and services towards achieving outcomes that fall within the 90th percentile or greater.
  • Follow Cone Health's protocols and legal requirements when recording information.
  • Engages in the advancement of clinical protocols, processes, initiatives, and offers insights to enhance the caliber and productivity of healthcare delivery.
  • Divides on-call obligations with other doctors within the specified regions.

Education

  • Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
  • Also, medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.

Experience

  • Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges.
  • If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).
  • Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC.
  • Meets requirements of the Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges. The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
  • Cone Health shall obtain and maintain in force professional liability insurance through commercial coverage or a program of self-insurance insuring MCAP and Physician for professional errors, omissions, negligence, incompetence, and malfeasance.
