Job Description
Providing patient care as directed by the Provider, the Medical Assistant Certified follows standard care plans based on the patient’s needs, age, and condition, while assisting nursing, lab, clerical, and physician staff to ensure effective care.
Essential Job Function
- Assists in collection of patient data including biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors.
- Inputs vital signs and other relevant data while implementing the care plan as directed by the Provider.
- Implements protocols/standing orders based on patient complaint or reason for visit.
- Performs 12-lead EKGs, selected respiratory procedures, and other patient care duties for which proper training and proven skills have been obtained.
- Administers oral and parenteral medications including immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin tests and treatments, and other treatment modalities according to specified policies and procedures and medical assisting standards, under the direction of supervising physicians.
- Completes necessary prior authorizations for medications and sends physician prescriptions to pharmacies using phone or fax.
- Oversees appointment bookings, ensuring preferences are given to patients in emergency situations and maintains timely flow of patients.
- Ensures complete, precise, and timely recording of all medical assistant activities in patient records.
- Obtains all appropriate prior authorization or pre-certification for patients in order to comply with safety standards.
- Communicates patient information and inquiries to the healthcare team for accurate triage and follow-up.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or EquivalentPreferred: Medical Assistant Program
Experience
- Required: NonePreferred: Completion of medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required:Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider. **Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.**
