Job Description
The Occupational Therapist II evaluates the health conditions of patients, devises, arranges, and participates in programs for rehabilitation that help in the return to peak functional capabilities, enhancing mobility, alleviating pain, increasing muscle strength, and reducing or preventing physical deformities in individuals afflicted by sickness or injury, and provides educational support to patients and their families. Proficiency in treating all patients effectively and independently within the clinic, and completing occupational therapy tasks with minimal supervision is a key aspect of this position. This therapist serves as a catalyst for communication among team members across disciplines, approaches familiar patients with assurance, and stands up for the rights of their patients and co-workers. While the job requires independent practice primarily, it may involve seeking guidance in complex situations and experiencing challenges related to transitioning to other work settings.
Essential Job Function:
- Provides evaluation and treatment for a variety of diagnoses and challenging patient cases.
- Examines patients' physical conditions, medical records, and limitations in functionality in order to devise personalized treatment plans.
- Delivers interventions such as therapeutic exercises and other occupational therapy methods aimed at enhancing patients' physical abilities and mobility.
- Provides patients and their families with knowledge about treatment regimens, exercises to do at home, and self-care strategies for better recovery.
- Collaborates with colleagues to establish and put into effect discharge plans and suggestions for ongoing care, possibly needing assistance from other team members.
- Keeps track of and documents the development of patients, the effectiveness of treatments, and how they respond to interventions in order to make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
- Engages in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams across departments to secure synchronized patient care and well-rounded treatment effects.
- Provides guidance and instruction to onboard and educate fresh personnel, showing a persistent effort to elevate the effectiveness and expertise of team members.
- Executes supplementary responsibilities as directed.
Education:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy is a mandatory requirement
Experience:
- Required: 2 years
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Endorsed by the North Carolina Occupational Therapy Board for licensing.
- The American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider offers courses in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
