Job Description
The Medical Assistant Certified delivers team-based patient care under the direction of a Provider, following established care plans that support each patient s needs. Working under close supervision in an outpatient setting, this role performs routine clinical and administrative tasks to assist providers and the care team. The Medical Assistant helps maintain safe, timely, and efficient clinic operations by supporting daily patient care activities and workflow.
Essential Job Functions
Clinical Support
- Partakes in the process of gathering and documenting basic patient information, incorporating biological, psychological, social, and cultural details with careful monitoring.
- - Gets patients and necessary equipment ready for standard medical procedures to ensure their comfort and readiness.
- Aids in preventive care activities by conducting screenings and issuing reminders for essential health maintenance tasks.
- Identifies and relays any abnormal findings to the designated healthcare provider or team member for review.
- Complies with recognized clinical protocols in response to the patient's visit reason, seeking guidance as deemed fit.
- Undertakes routine clinical procedures upon fulfilling required training obligations and displaying competency, including activities like point-of-care testing and fundamental diagnostic support.
- Keeps exam rooms neat and well-equipped through cleaning, restocking supplies, and maintaining a safe, organized setting.
- Supports in the acquisition, tagging, and routing of samples in accordance with approved guidelines.
- Ensures timely and precise documentation of clinical data in the electronic medical record under supervision.
- Administers medicines, which could involve immunizations and other essential treatment modalities, in compliance with organizational regulations, standards in medical assisting, and the guidelines protecting medication administration under the direct supervision of a provider.
Administrative Support
- Supports with scheduling appointments and conducting primary tasks for patient check-in and check-out.
- Assists in managing pre-certification, referral, and prior authorization procedures by gathering information and ensuring requests are directed as specified.
- Administers basic patient inquiries and messages through standard scripts and standing protocols.
- Conducts primary EMR browsing for the purpose of documentation, ordering procedures, and patient communication under supervision.
- Helping with the supervision and restocking of healthcare supplies.
- Manages additional assignments as required.
Safety & Compliance
- Obey protocols, infection control regulations, and regulatory directives.
- Diligently communicates any safety or compliance issues that arise.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- The educational prerequisite entails a high school diploma or an equivalent credential.
- Graduation from Medical Assistant Course
Experience:
You are not expected to have prior experience as a medical assistant for this role
Preferred:
- Candidates who have spent less than a year in a clinical or ambulatory setting are preferred
- Attainment of proficiency in medical assisting through completion of a program that included clinical training and experience in a physician's office environment.
- Engagements in the past, whether in work, academics, or volunteer service, that required customer interaction, teamwork, and a high level of accuracy
Participation in clinical orientation, passing competency evaluation, and achieving success in clinical skills assessment and medication administration test are conditions that must be met within 90 days of hire, with no more than 3 attempts allowed.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
- Options available for BLS (CPR) training, either through the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
