Job Description

Overview:

The Medical Assistant II Certified provides team-based patient care as directed by the Provider and according to standard plans of care appropriate to the patient's condition, needs, and/or age. The daily care provided varies based on the specialty and practice size. Working under moderate supervision, this role provides support to nursing, lab, clerical, and Physician staff to facilitate positive patient outcomes and care. This role also is cross trained to alternate positions, sites, and specialties to support the practice in the front office, check-out, scheduling, and laboratory as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists and offers advice to newly hired medical assistants and individuals pursuing a career as medical assistants.
  • Experienced appraiser for clinical abilities. Administers and conducts annual educational lectures for employees as requested by management.
  • Organizes and leads daily team meetings to facilitate communication and coordination among clinic staff.
  • Executes quality or process improvement assignments for the clinic in accordance with leadership directives.
  • Directs the purchasing activities for clinic supplies and medications to meet demand effectively.
  • Inputs necessary information, like vital signs, and puts into action the prescribed plan for patient care.
  • Designs protocols and standing orders that align with the patient's reported issues or visit rationale.
  • Executes 12-lead electrocardiograms, conducts specific respiratory care interventions, upholds assigned patient care duties, and supports healthcare providers in specialty procedures for which proper training has been provided and competencies have been verified.
  • Delivers oral and parenteral drugs, encompassing immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin tests, and additional treatment modalities, according to specified policies and procedures and medical assisting criteria, under the supervision of supervising physicians.
  • Manages medication prior authorizations when needed and communicates physician's prescriptions to pharmacies through phone calls and faxes when necessary.
  • Documents all medical assistant procedures accurately, completely, and promptly within the medical record.
  • Conveys patient information, questions, and concerns to the nursing team and physician to evaluate and respond to messages accurately.
  • Carries out extra assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred: Medical Assistant Program

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 2 years' work experience as Certified Medical Assistant

Preferred: SPICE Training, Fit-Test Training, Member of professional organization eg AAMA, experience leading quality or process improvement projects, experienced trainer, experienced in practice front office roles.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).
  • BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
    Preferred: Advanced Certification in addition to BLS (ACLS, PALS, etc)
  • Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.
  • Medical Assistant Clinical Ladder Requires ongoing demonstration of competency validation to remain in the Medical Assistant II Certified role. Refer to the Clinical Ladder Assessment for a list to select five items annually. These are documented throughout the year as part of annual evaluation.
