Job Description

Overview:

The Medical Assistant II Certified provides team-based patient care as directed by the Provider and according to standard plans of care appropriate to the patient's condition, needs, and/or age. The daily care provided varies based on the specialty and practice size. Working under moderate supervision, this role provides support to nursing, lab, clerical, and Physician staff to facilitate positive patient outcomes and care. This role also is cross trained to alternate positions, sites, and specialties to support the practice in the front office, check-out, scheduling, and laboratory as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Offers direction and encouragement to medical assistant students and professionals who are new to the field.
  • Knowledgeable examiner for clinical proficiencies. Designs and delivers annual educational training to staff per the request of leadership.
  • Takes charge of daily huddles to ensure effective communication and coordination among the clinic staff.
  • Spearheads projects targeting quality enhancement or process improvement within the clinic, as requested by leadership.
  • Ensures the availability of essential items by managing the procurement of clinic supplies and medications.
  • Records data, such as crucial measurements, and implements the directed care plan effectively.
  • Crafts guidelines and standing orders based on the specific complaints or reasons for the patient's visit.
  • Performs 12-lead EKGs and select respiratory care procedures, attends to assigned patient care tasks, and assists providers in specialty procedures with training and demonstrated competencies.
  • Executes oral and parenteral medications, administering immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin tests, and alternative treatment modalities in alignment with specified policies and protocols and medical assisting standards, under the guidance of overseeing physicians.
  • Deals with prior authorizations for medications and transmits physician orders to pharmacies by phone and fax as needed.
  • Ensures all medical assistant tasks are accurately, comprehensively, and promptly documented in the patient's medical record.
  • Shares patient status, inquiries, and concerns with nursing staff and physician to prioritize and deal with messages efficiently.
  • Executes additional responsibilities as directed.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred: Medical Assistant Program

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 2 years' work experience as Certified Medical Assistant

Preferred: SPICE Training, Fit-Test Training, Member of professional organization eg AAMA, experience leading quality or process improvement projects, experienced trainer, experienced in practice front office roles.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).
  • BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
    Preferred: Advanced Certification in addition to BLS (ACLS, PALS, etc)
  • Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.
  • Medical Assistant Clinical Ladder Requires ongoing demonstration of competency validation to remain in the Medical Assistant II Certified role. Refer to the Clinical Ladder Assessment for a list to select five items annually. These are documented throughout the year as part of annual evaluation.
