Job Description

The Medical Assistant Cert Float provides team-based patient care under Provider supervision in a variety of primary care, specialty care and pediatric practices. This role requires adaptability, flexibility and willingness to float based on needs. Working under moderate supervision, this role provides support to nursing, lab, clerical, and Physician staff in order to facilitate positive patient outcomes and care. This role also supports the practice in the front office, check-out, scheduling and laboratory as needed.

Essential Job Function

  • Compiles patient information encompassing biological, psychological, social, and cultural aspects.
  • Records data, like critical measurements, and follows through with the care plan as directed by the Provider.
  • Establishes guidelines and standard procedures that align with the patient's complaints or reasons for seeking medical attention.
  • Administers 12-lead ECGs, performs specific respiratory therapies, and executes assigned patient care tasks that align with verified competencies.
  • Dispenses oral and parenteral medications, including immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic injections, skin assessments, and alternative therapeutic techniques as outlined by specific policies and procedures and professional medical assisting guidelines, under the supervision of attending doctors.
  • Helps schedule patient appointments, tests, admissions, and ensures compliance with physician instructions.
  • Handles medication prior authorizations and transmits physician-approved prescriptions to pharmacies via phone or fax upon request.
  • Provides support in setting up equipment, exam rooms, laundry, and restocking examination areas when required.
  • Delivers detailed, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation of every medical assistant procedure performed in the patient's records.
  • Relays information about the patient's state, inquiries, and worries to the nursing staff and physician to effectively prioritize and address incoming communications.
  • Carries out supplementary responsibilities as instructed.

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of medical assistant program. Preferred: Associate Degree Medical Assistant

Experience

  • Required: Minimum 2 years as a CMA with at least 3 months in a specialty and 3 months primary care setting either the specialty or PC must include pediatric care. Proven clinical competency (i.e. checked off by a RN or Provider) in a specialty and a primary care setting may be considered in lieu of the 3 month requirement.

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required:Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider. **Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.**
