Job Description
Overview:
A certified nerve conduction technologist conducts neurodiagnostic evaluations, such as nerve conduction studies, to evaluate the condition and performance of peripheral nerves and muscles. Their duties involve educating and readying patients before undergoing electromyography (EMG) exams. Collaborating closely with physicians, the certified nerve conduction technologist assists in the precise identification and tracking of neurological ailments and situations, contributing to the development of suitable patient treatment strategies.
Responsibilities:
Conducts a wide variety of Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) following established national guidelines to observe and analyze the electrical signals in the brain and nervous system for the identification of neurological disorders by physicians.
Ensures proper functioning and adjustment of all neurodiagnostic machinery while maintaining a sufficient inventory of materials for neurodiagnostic procedures, facilitating efficient operations and trustworthy testing for neurological conditions, ultimately enhancing patient safety and healthcare quality.
Patients are informed about nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) to improve their comprehension and willingness to participate in the tests, ultimately aiming for a favorable patient encounter.
Monitors individuals during examinations or medical procedures by utilizing evoked potential (EP) devices or video recording technology.
Provides condensed technical information to aid doctors in diagnosing conditions related to the brain, sleep, and nervous system.
Sets, organizes, and documents sequences of electrical configurations while evaluating responses from peripheral nerves, spinal cord, subcortical, or cortical areas through testing.
Carries out additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, Completion of an END/Neurodiagnostic Technologist program or eligible for certification through the completion of on the job training in nerve conduction studies as required for certification.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- 1 year experience in nerve conduction studies
