Job Description

Overview:

Evaluates patient conditions, develops plans, implements solutions, records outcomes, prioritizes tasks, shares responsibilities, supervises staff, and coordinates the care of individuals of different age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, as prescribed under the provisions of the NC Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities:

A crucial part of caregiving involves conducting patient evaluations, implementing clinical pathways and personalizing care plans to align with specific patient needs based on age and relevant partnerships. As the caregiving process unfolds, nurses are prompt in recognizing distinctions and effecting adequate adjustments in the caregiving plan.

Educational needs for patients are assessed and addressed by the nursing assistant, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge to advocate for themselves and responsibly manage their healthcare. Updating the plan of care, documenting interventions, and communicating changes in care are also critical aspects of the role.

Fosters sympathetic and therapeutic associations between healthcare teams, patients and significant others. Detects hindrances to communication, finds solutions, and enacts plans to surmount communication obstacles. Exercises due respect for differences in ethnicity, gender, age, education, religion, and socioeconomic status that affect patients/significant others. Develops specialized plans to cater to each patient/significant other's diverse needs prompted by cultural distinctions, diversity, or other unique variables. Upholds the rights of patients/significant others and provides intelligible and personalized responses that suit the context.

Supports a framework that embraces evidence-based practice, research, and quality improvement to create an environment conducive to their use. Demonstrates understanding of Shared Governance principles and has demonstrated either direct participation or understands the behind-the-scenes work that supports council decisions made.

Assumes responsibility for supervising and training team members.

Helps establish a work environment that is conducive to well-being and support. Maintains awareness of and compliance with policies, procedures, and standards. Plays a role in identifying learning requirements. Offers input and promotes the precepting and mentoring of newly hired staff. Delegates tasks as necessary to support personnel, ensures successful execution, and provides feedback accordingly. Demonstrates a commitment to teamwork and mutual respect. Supervises specific personnel in the management of patient care.

Demonstrated strong negotiation skills by advocating for the needs of my organization while also considering the interests of the opposing party.

Serves as a role model for other professionals by demonstrating professionalism and tact in all work-related interactions.

Qualifications:

Students are required to complete clinical hours in various healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities

Preferred:

Completing a BSN program can open up many career opportunities for individuals who are passionate about a career in nursing

For recent nursing graduates, two possible paths are available: acceptance into the Cone Health New Graduate program or completion of an acute care new graduate program.

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of one year of experience working as an RN in an acute care hospital setting.

Depending on the discretion of the hiring managers, other RN experiences may also be considered.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED

RN | Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact state.
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
PREFERRED
The following certifications are preferred and may be required within a certain timeframe of hire as defined by the specific nursing unit.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
  • Safe Training and Responsible Restraints (STARR)
