Job Description
The Physician is charged with caring for patients and fulfilling clinical obligations. Offers team coordination services across various disciplines in designated areas. Provides medical teaching to residents, interns, and other students. Contributes to cultivating a setting that promotes medical research. Utilizes independent judgment when diagnosing and treating patients, devising treatment plans, and steering interdisciplinary teams towards meeting patient care plan objectives.
Essential Job Function
- Staying current and competent in the field requires utilizing literature and attending both regional and national gatherings.
- Takes part in educational programs for patients, staff, and professionals.
- Involves in educational and research activities like instructional material, organized teaching sessions, teaching in clinical environments, educating staff members, and carrying out research projects.
- Liaison: Takes part in liaison tasks alongside other professionals and aids in establishing connections for patient referrals.
- Maintains open communication with referring physicians to keep them abreast of patient care and developments.
- In Patient Care, individuals provide hands-on and indirect support to patients within their specified zones.
- Supervises the interdisciplinary team from a medical standpoint and mentors residents and medical students in their tasks.
- Takes part in clinical research endeavors that capture interest.
- Delivers precise and prompt documentation and approval of care to establish modern medical records for billing objectives.
- Maintains and models the professional expectations set forth by Cone Health, which include adhering to the Medical Staff By-Laws, upholding Service Excellence promises, complying with practice standards, meeting physician requirements, and embodying the expected professional image.

- Displays a professional and amiable demeanor when communicating with peers, clients, team members, relatives, and guests.

- Quality and Safety: Involvement in medical audits, quality enhancement efforts, investigations, peer evaluations, and similar evaluations concerning the standards of professional healthcare when required.
- Oversees medical management and guides a diverse team to deliver the best possible care for each individual.
- Ensures that practice standards are upheld and compliance with regulations is maintained.
- Continuous efforts to enhance quality and incorporate evidence-based approaches are key in striving for top-tier healthcare and services, with a focus on achieving outcomes ranking in the 90th percentile and beyond.
- Follow Cone Health's policies and legal requirements when documenting records.
- Takes part in formulating clinical recommendations, protocols, initiatives, and suggests enhancements to boost the caliber and effectiveness of healthcare services.
- Shares distinct on-call tasks with other doctors within the specified regions.
Education
- Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
- Also medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
Experience
- Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges.
- If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty). Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC.
- Meets requirements of the Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.
- The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
- Cone Health shall obtain and maintain in force professional liability insurance through commercial coverage or a program of self-insurance insuring MCAP and Physician for professional errors, omissions, negligence, incompetence, and malfeasance.
