Overview:
The Non-Nursing Sitter for Observations ensures a secure setting for patients considered high-risk for self-harm or in need of constant monitoring to prevent accidents. This position employs Relationship Based Care principles to uphold safety, respect patient choices, and enhance communication effectiveness through collaboration with patients, families, and fellow staff members, both within and outside the healthcare facility.
Responsibilities:
Maintains constant visual contact with the patient, including during bathroom breaks and when engaged in activities outside the department.
Notifies the registered nurse of any updates in the patient's condition, any worries expressed by the patient or family, or any hazardous situations observed.
Offers guidance for the patient's care strategy.
Offers personalized care to the patient in order to foster a secure setting.
Refers inquiries and issues to the relevant individual, acknowledging the importance of seeking help when needed.
Offers emotional assistance to patients and their loved ones when necessary.
Inspects the environment regularly for potential points of contraband entry, such as following visits from guests or when the patient returns from time spent outside their room, and records findings in the Suicide Precautions Documentation Form.
Executes additional tasks as required.
