Job Description
Overview:
The HIM Release of Information Specialist at AMB Health is tasked with handling medical requests for releasing information to patients and external parties promptly and effectively while adhering to HIPAA, federal, and state protocols. This position involves utilizing specific tools and databases to input, revise, and manage all relevant data related to requests and authorizations. The incumbent aids in creating and executing standards and frameworks for information management to uphold the integrity of patient records.
Responsibilities:
Handles requests that comply with HIPAA regulations from both patients and third parties, verifying the proper authorization required for the disclosure of information.
Maintains precision in the research and selection of appropriate data for disclosure, ensuring that only the essential information is transmitted, through the utilization of electronic and traditional systems to safeguard patient privacy.
Attorney inquiries, subpoenas, and legal mandates are examined by Risk Management for early identification of potential legal action.
Manages billing, receiving, and handling of payments related to the disclosure of information in accordance with set fees and protocols.
Ensuring precision in handling patient-requested revisions in accordance with the Health Information Policy for Amendments/Corrections while working closely with healthcare providers to adhere to deadlines, state regulations, and relevant policies concerning amendments and corrections.
Works together with healthcare professionals to handle requests for letters terminating the patient/provider relationship and blocking appointments in the electronic system, in accordance with established protocols and deadlines.
Conducts searches in databases to verify the death status of patients who are believed to have passed away and records this information in the electronic health record.
Carries out additional tasks as required.
