Job Description
Overview:
The role of the Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead revolves around the examination of human samples, including blood, tissue, and body fluids, to determine chemical makeup, cell count, drug amounts, blood type, and the existence of microorganisms. Automated equipment and specialized instrumentation are employed to prepare samples and perform multiple complex tests that yield significant data about various diseases. Additionally, this position provides guidance and training to team members who are new to the field and answers any questions that arise during the onboarding process.
Responsibilities:
Utilizes a variety of laboratory techniques to ensure precise identification of specimens, while also maintaining meticulous records and timely analysis.
Executes examination of laboratory samples (pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical) in accordance with predetermined laboratory guidelines and protocols.
Works alongside laboratory management in formulating and revising standard operating procedures to guarantee the observance of the highest standards and ongoing advancement in handling of samples.
Proactively monitors laboratory equipment and testing processes to ensure smooth operation and swiftly addresses any technical issues to minimize disruptions and downtime.
Assists in the training and orientation of newly recruited technologists in order to promote their seamless integration into the team, while maintaining high standards of performance through consistent competency assessments.
Executes additional tasks as directed.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Four years of laboratory experience in a high complexity laboratory in designated specialty or subspecialty.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED
Required:
Must have Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) pr Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) or Technologist in Blood Banking (BB) or Technologist in Chemistry (C) or Technologist in Hematology (H) or Technologist in Microbiology (M) or Specialist in Microbiology (SM) by ASCP
