Job Description

Overview:

Assessing and treating patients with speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing, and cognitive challenges are part of the Speech Language Pathologist II's job responsibilities. This role involves effectively addressing the needs of patients within a clinical practice and carrying out speech language pathology duties with minimal supervision. While adept at independent practice, this therapist may require support in complex scenarios and face difficulties when switching between different work environments. They take the initiative to foster collaboration among team members, provide competent care to familiar patients, and advocate for the best interests of their patients and team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses and attends to a diverse range of diagnoses and complex cases. Conducts comprehensive assessments on patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders to evaluate their communication and oral motor functions.
  • Collaborates in devising and actualizing individualized therapy approaches that derive from evidence-based research, customized to suit the assessment results and patient's aspirations.
  • Instructs patients and their families in understanding treatment plans, exercises to be done at home, and self-regulation methods aiming to optimize recuperation effects.
  • Watches over and documents the improvement of patients, outcomes of treatments, and reactions to interventions in order to make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
  • Partners with peers to devise and carry out discharge plans and recommendations for ongoing care, occasionally relying on the assistance of other team members.
  • - Reports the latest updates and status to the appropriate people, such as family members or healthcare providers.
  • Supports in guiding and instructing new staff, exemplifying a persistent commitment to enhancing the effectiveness and competency of coworkers.
  • Completes supplementary assignments as instructed.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Required: Master's degree in Speech Pathology

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 3 years

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:

Required:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or is eligible to receive it through a Clinical Fellowship Year
  • Licensed by the North Carolina Board for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists during their Supervised Experience Year
  • BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
