Job Description

Overview:

The key role of the Speech Language Pathologist II is to assess and treat individuals with speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing, and cognitive impairments. This position involves effectively providing treatment within the clinical practice and carrying out all speech language pathology duties with minimal oversight. While proficient in managing most cases independently, this therapist may seek guidance for complex situations and could face obstacles when transitioning to other work settings. They take the initiative to promote communication among interdisciplinary team members, approach familiar cases with confidence, and advocate for the well-being of their patients and team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages and treats an array of diagnoses and more intricate patient conditions.
  • Analyzes the communication and oral motor skills of patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders through comprehensive evaluations.
  • Assists in developing and implementing personalized treatment approaches that are evidence-based, taking into account assessment outcomes, patient targets, and specific requirements.
  • Educates individuals and their loved ones on treatment plans, home-based exercises, and self-guidance practices to better recovery progress.
  • Observes and records the patients' improvement, treatment effectiveness, and reactions to interventions to make any necessary changes to treatment plans.
  • Engages in cooperation with others to develop and put into action discharge plans and suggestions for continued care, with occasional reliance on advice from other team members.
  • - Conveys updates and present condition to the appropriate parties, including family members or healthcare providers.
  • Assists in onboarding and educating new staff, demonstrating a continual commitment to improving the skills and productivity of coworkers.
  • Carries through with further tasks as instructed.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Required: Master's degree in Speech Pathology

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 3 years

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or is eligible to receive it through a Clinical Fellowship Year
  • Licensed by the North Carolina Board for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists during their Supervised Experience Year
  • BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
