Job Description
The responsibilities of the Physician encompass patient care and clinical obligations while overseeing multidisciplinary team coordination in allocated sections. Medical education provision to residents, interns, and other trainees falls within the purview of their duties. There is active engagement in fostering an atmosphere supportive of medical research progression. Utilizing independent judgement, they diagnose and treat patients, develop treatment plans, and provide guidance to the interdisciplinary team in accomplishing the patient care plan objectives.
Essential Job Function:
- Learning and development: Engages with academic texts and joins regional and national conferences to stay current and maintain professional competence.
- Takes part in educational programs for patients, staff, and professionals.
- Partakes in educational and research activities, which encompass didactic content, structured teaching seminars, clinical instruction, staff educational sessions, and research projects.
- Takes part in collaborating with other staff members for liaison tasks, and helps in expanding sources for patient referrals.
- Ensures referring physicians are kept in the loop regarding care and results.
- Patient Care: Delivers patient care directly and indirectly within specified areas.
- Offers medical oversight for the interdisciplinary group and monitors the activities of residents and medical students as they fulfill their responsibilities.
- Takes part in research initiatives that pique their interest.
- Offers correct and punctual documentation and endorsement of healthcare services to update medical records for billing requirements.
- Demonstrates a commitment to the professional norms established by Cone Health, which encompass the Medical Staff By-Laws, Service Excellence pledges, practice standards, physician requirements, and expectations for maintaining a professional image.
- Works in harmony with the Mission, Vision, and Values outlined by MCHS.
- Displays respectful and harmonious connections with fellow staff, patients, collaborators, family members, and guests.
- Commits to the Socratic Oath, maintains confidentiality of patients, and upholds high standards of integrity in every situation.
- Functions in harmony with the mission and benchmarks set by Cone Health.
- Quality and Safety: Takes part in medical audits, quality enhancement initiatives, probes, peer evaluations, and other related inquiries regarding professional care standards.
- Offers medical guidance and leads the interdisciplinary group to ensure each patient receives the best possible care.
- Maintains safe practice guidelines and ensures compliance with regulations.
- Continuous improvements and evidence-based strategies are utilized in Quality Improvement efforts to advance towards top-tier healthcare and service delivery, aiming for outcomes in the 90th percentile or greater.
- Ensure that all records are kept in compliance with Cone Health's policies and relevant legislation.
- Engaging in the advancement of clinical guidelines, protocols, projects, and offering suggestions for enhancing care quality and operational efficiency.
- Shares specifically designated on-call responsibilities with other physician members of the assigned areas.
Education:
- Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
- Also, medical degrees from other countries that are equivalent to the United States MD or DO degrees from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board.
Experience:
- Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Practitioner must have completed the number of years in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and met all other requirements for eligibility to receive board certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in the primary medical specialty (or subspecialty) for which the Practitioner is applying for Clinical Privileges.
- If five (5) or more years have elapsed since the Practitioner completed such residency program, the Practitioner currently must have board-certification recognized by either the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association in such specialty (or subspecialty).
- Fully licensed to practice Medicine in the state of NC. Meets requirements of the Cone Health Medical Staff by-laws and obtains the appropriate level of medical staff privileges.
- The Practitioner must have a current, and valid DEA registration number, with no involuntary limitations on prescriptive authority (schedule limitations) resulting from DEA disciplinary actions.
- Cone Health shall obtain and maintain in force professional liability insurance through commercial coverage or a program of self-insurance insuring MCAP and Physician for professional errors, omissions, negligence, incompetence, and malfeasance.
