Job Description
The Medical Assistant Certified delivers team-based patient care under the direction of a Provider, following established care plans that support each patient s needs. Working under close supervision in an outpatient setting, this role performs routine clinical and administrative tasks to assist providers and the care team. The Medical Assistant helps maintain safe, timely, and efficient clinic operations by supporting daily patient care activities and workflow.
Essential Job Functions
Clinical Support
- Assists in collecting and documenting patient data, covering biological, psychological, social, and cultural aspects while closely supervised.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of examination and treatment rooms for patient well-being.
- Offers assistance with preventive care tasks, such as conducting basic screenings and sending health maintenance prompts.
- Communicates and documents any abnormal results to the supervising team member or healthcare provider promptly.
- Acts in accordance with established clinical protocols pertaining to the patient's visit purpose, consulting for assistance as warranted.
- Carries out typical clinical procedures once the mandatory training has been completed and competence has been demonstrated, which may involve conducting point-of-care testing and providing basic diagnostic aid.
- Cleans, restocks, and organizes exam rooms to create a safe and well-stocked environment.
- Assists in sample collection, marking, and routing following specified protocols.
- Logs clinical data in the electronic medical record accurately and promptly under supervision.
- Offers medications, including vaccines and other fundamental treatment modalities, following the policies of the organization, medical assisting standards, and the regulations regarding the rights of medication administration while being directly supervised by a healthcare provider.
Administrative Support
- Aids in managing appointment bookings and performing basic patient registration and departure functions.
- Assists in handling pre-certification, referral, and prior authorization requirements by collecting data and directing requests as required.
- Manages simple patient calls and messages by adhering to standard scripts and protocols.
- Performs rudimentary EMR navigation in documenting, placing orders, and communicating with patients under supervision.
- Supporting the inventory control and restocking of clinical resources.
- Conducts additional duties as requested.
Safety & Compliance
Follow protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Reports safety and compliance concerns promptly.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Completions of Medical Assistant Program
Experience:
Required No prior Medical Assistant experience required
Preferred:
Up to 1 year of experience in a clinical or ambulatory setting preferred
Completion of medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience.
Prior work, educational or volunteer experience requiring customer service, team collaboration and attention to detail
Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
Required: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
