Job Description
Collaborating closely with the radiation oncologist, the Dosimetrist is tasked with producing radiation dose distributions and calculations that aim to achieve optimal treatment outcomes by delivering high doses of radiation with minimal harm to the patient's healthy tissues. This position involves ensuring patients' safety without constant oversight.
Essential Job Function
- Undertakes the task of treatment planning and dose calculations to formulate the most suitable radiation therapy plans for individuals undergoing treatment.
- Selects the arrangement of beams to effectively treat the tumor while mitigating potential harm to surrounding tissues.
- Ensures that the documentation of treatment plans and calculations meets regulatory and quality assurance standards accurately.
- Incorporates imaging information, such as CT scans, MRIs, and PET scans, to precisely mark out target volumes and crucial anatomical regions in the planning of treatments.
- Confirms the treatment delivery parameters to include machine settings, treatment tools, and patient positioning, ensuring the precise and safe delivery of radiation therapy.
- Undertakes supplementary duties as instructed.
Education
- Required: Graduate of a Radiation Therapy Technology Program or a Certified Medical Dosimetrist Program; Successful completion of the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) exam within 3 years of hire, resulting in certification as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD). The CMD certification must be maintained while employed.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree.
Experience
- Preferred: 3 years working as an independently functioning medical dosimetrist.
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Certified Medical Dosimetrist via Medical Dosimetry Certification Board exam within 3 years of hire.
