Job Description

The primary responsibility of an EKG Technician is to carry out 12-lead EKG diagnostic assessments that gauge the heart's electrical functions. They collaborate with a Certified Cardiovascular Technologist, physician, PA, or NP to perform routine and specific Electrocardiograms, while placing a strong emphasis on delivering exceptional customer service by prioritizing patient safety, preferences, and effective communication. Working alongside patients, their families, colleagues, and external stakeholders, the role focuses on providing accurate cardiac diagnostics, patient-centered care, and achieving optimal outcomes.

Essential Job Function:

  • Guides individuals on the steps to take before undergoing electrocardiogram (EKG) tests and cardiovascular monitoring tool placements.
  • Manages EKG equipment and connects leads to individuals to record precise heart data.
  • Oversees the functioning of EKG devices throughout tests to guarantee they are working effectively and resolves any arising complications.
  • Examines the scanner monitor for any deviations in the heartbeat patterns of individuals and cross-checks the details for conversion into a printed report, which will be analyzed by the medical practitioner.
  • Maintain and revise examination findings, offering early feedback to designated healthcare providers (RN, MD).
  • Ensures the accuracy and detail of patient records pertaining to tests and findings through the utilization of a Cardiac Information Management System (MUSE).
  • Responsible for the upkeep of cardiovascular monitoring devices, conducts troubleshooting procedures, identifies malfunctions in the equipment, and communicates with technical support teams.
  • Offers patient support and care, addressing any worries or queries they may have about cardiac diagnostic procedures.
  • Upholds a safe setting for patients, oneself, and the surrounding individuals.
  • Engages with colleagues in the healthcare team to discuss and validate test outcomes.

Education

  • Successful completion of an approved EKG class (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience). High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Minimum 6 months healthcare experience and demonstrated proficiency conducting 12-Lead EKG

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
