Job Description
The Medical Assistant Certified provides team-based patient care as directed by the Provider and according to standard plans of care appropriate to the patient's condition, needs, and/or age. Working under close supervision, this role provides support to nursing, lab, clerical, and Physician staff in order to facilitate positive patient outcomes and care.
Essential Job Function
- Aids in the compilation of patient information, considering biological, psychological, social, and cultural aspects.
- Inputs significant details, such as vital signs, and follows through with the care plan under the healthcare provider's guidance.
- Develops protocols and standing orders that are informed by the patient's complaints or reported symptoms.
- Carries out 12-lead EKG assessments, implements specified respiratory care procedures, and manages other assigned patient care responsibilities according to demonstrated competencies.
- Administers medicines orally and via injections, including immunizations, controlled substances, therapeutic shots, skin assessments, and other treatment modalities, adhering to established policies, procedures, and standards for medical assistants under the supervision of practicing physicians.
- Carries out prior authorizations for medications and communicates healthcare provider prescriptions to pharmacies through phone and fax when necessary.
- Supervises the process of appointment scheduling, prioritizing patients in urgent situations and ensuring the timely management of patient flow.
- Records all medical assistant procedures accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner within the medical documentation.
- Acquires pre-authorization or precertification as required to meet safety regulations for patients.
- Relays patient status, inquiries, and issues to nursing personnel and doctor for sorting and addressing messages correctly.
- Executes tasks beyond the usual responsibilities.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Medical Assistant Program
Experience
- Required: None
- Preferred: Completion of medical assistant program including clinical rotation and physician office experience
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required from one of the following: American Associate of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health - RMA(AAH), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (RMA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider. **Participation in a clinical orientation, competency evaluation, and ability to pass a clinical skills assessment and medication administration test within ninety (90) days of hire, and within 3 attempts. **
